Contrast

In this photo looking out the back door you can see a bit of the deck steps there on the right. I would say our back door is about 1.5 to 2 feet above the yard, at least.

This photo from today (Saturday) is of the deck covered with several inches of icy snow that I can’t get off and then you can see how deep the yard is. If I were to walk out there and touch all the way down to the ground the snow would be at about my thigh. The brown thing you see is not deck-age but a box that is buried in ice and frozen to the deck.

Arctic Art

I keep hoping to get out and get more photos but it doesn’t seem to be happening and now today there is somewhat of a little blizzard going on so I think I will post what I have for now and add more later.

One of my all time favorites.

Let the ice sculpting begin!

This weekend’s local events will include the Peninsula Winter Games and Native Youth Olympics and the Tustumena 200 Sled Dog Race. The ice sculptures are taking form all over town. I hope to get some photos for you once they are completed.

minus 24 again this morning

Last year our landlord gave us an Amaryllis bulb and it grew 3 long green leaves through the months.  They got limp and I got crazy and clipped the leaves off completely this fall, down to the bulb, and it sat there dormant for a long time.  Upon my return it had one singular sprout almost 3 feet high.  And today, voila’, there are beautiful Amaryllis flowers atop!  An oasis in all this white.  Kind of makes me reflect on how God is The Gardener as in Hugh B. Brown’s Story of the Currant Bush.

To my sisters:  Remember Amaryllis Wallace?  I always loved her name.   I keep thinking of her as I watch these flowers…

Everywhere, including all around the church building and at my back door as well, I see tracks of hungry animals approaching the buildings looking for food or warmth or access.  The snow is very deep this year and the temps have been chilly even by my internal thermostat.

And the snow keeps coming…

I wanted to send my love out to my family today, everyone of you. It was wonderful to be together and spend time with each other. The goodbyes are just so hard for me.
I miss you.

I hope the New Year brings many blessings to all!
